“Wednesday's child is full of woe”这一句出自古老的童谣“Monday's Child”(《星期一的孩子》)。
Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go,
Friday's child loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for a living,
And the child that is born on the Sabbath day
Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay.
不同版本的童谣在最后一天的内容上有些出入,“bonny and blithe”有些作“fair and wise”或“happy and wise”,但意义上基本相同。
